Independent Practice and Certification
There are a number of pathways available to clinicians wanting to using PoCUS in independent practice.
In Canada, Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification is provided by the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society (CPoCUS). Attending a recognized introductory PoCUS course is a required first step in attaining the status of Core Independent Practitioner (core IP). CPoCUS offer core certification in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine.
The International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) has published guidance on training, certification, and maintenance of competency for point of care ultrasound (PoCUS). This curriculum guidance can be found here.
The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP), College of Family Physicians of Canada and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada provide guidance on training and maintenance of competency
